Variations 3 - Picots in Square Knot Sennits

These pictures show two kinds of picots
used with square knot sennits.

To reproduce the knots in the
left-hand picture make 3 square knots.
Put a pin in your knotting board on each side
of your sennit a little below the third square knot.
Make two square knots below the pin.
Take out the pins and slide the square knots up.
Make two more square knots and then repeat.
The further you place the pins from your
previous knots he wider your picots will be.
You can decide how close your picots will be
by varying the number of square knots
between each picot.

For raised picots, as shown in the
right-hand picture, see instructions below.




INSTRUCTIONS FOR RAISED PICOTS

Make a sennit of four square knots.
Leave a little space and
make another four square knots.
Bring the core cords up and through
the space between the square knots
(one cord on each side).
Pull tight and make more square knots
directly under your picot.

If you have difficulty fitting the ends of
your cords through the space, try threading
them onto a large eye yarn needle.
